OOTD: A rainy day

Have you ever been looking forward to a day out in the sun just to realize it is pouring outside? If not then you live somewhere far away from Iceland. On the 17th of June there was a celebration downtown due to the Icelandic independence day. It is a day filled with candy floss, jugglers and sweet music. So as you can imagine I was super excited for the first proper summer day.
I don't think I've ever experienced that much rain. It felt like the end of the world, I'm not even joking. Every other umbrella was upside down. In short, the day sucked if you were being negative.
Me and my friend decided to suck it up and head out to the rain to listen to three of our favorite Icelandic bands and drink coffee. It was so wonderful but at the end of the day we were both soaking wet and freezing, as we expected.
But what do you wear to a summery festival when it's pouring outside? I chose a brand "new" (vintage) maxi skirt, a basic top and a leather jacket. I added a roomy bag (to keep my umbrella) and a hat as well.
Here is my final look:

Inspired by christmas

These past days I've been getting more and more excited about Christmas. The snow finally came and I took out my furry winter coat. I also put Michael Buble's Christmas album on my ipod (it's been on repeat ever since). When the snow came falling down for the first time this winter it was like someone clicked my Christmas spirit button, as soon as  I saw the first snowflake I started dreaming about turkey, red lips and of course my furry coat. My next thought was: what the hell am I wearing on Christmas Eve?? I made the great mistake of not buying my holiday outfit when I was in the UK so I faced the problem of overprized-not-so-pretty dresses and lack of options. In Iceland the only place you could find a decent outfit would have to be topshop or thrift shops. Torture, for people like me.
I spent three or four days scanning the thrift shops and I found one dress. That one dress was 1 centimeter to tight. I was heartbroken because it was the only thing I saw myself wearing. In the end I opened up my closet and found my kind of forgotten maxi skirt. It's gray and fabulous. I just decided on wearing that but I still needed a top to go with it. That's when I turned to topshop. When I got there I was disappointed in my favorite store. I didn't like their new line at all. It had too much detail if that makes sense. I never thought I'd see the day when even topshop fails me. When I was just about to give up I spotted a dark purple crop top. It was in the basic section and it wasn't patterned at all. It was cheap and I just bought it.
When I got home and tried it with my maxi skirt it fitted perfectly together. I also found out it kind of goes with everything else I own. Even thought it was just a basic cropped, lose fit top I found a way to make it fancy. It's amazing what a simple pearl necklace and dark lipstick can do. Now all I have left to figure out is how to style my hair and what cardigan or kimono I need to complete my outfit. I really needed to get all this christmas outfit babble out of my head because it's been bugging me for a while now. I'm really glad it turned out okay because I was a little bit scared of wearing something old on Christmas Eve, and to be honest that would have sucked. Somehow I can't bring myself wearing stuff I've worn before on days as big as Christmas. Maybe I have a problem, who knows?
Something else that winter has brought me to do is wearing red lipstick a lot. I don't know what's gotten into me but since December I've found myself painting my lips red more often than 2012 and 2013 put together (to be fair I hardly wore red lipstick but still..) To me red lips are so christmasy and they put me in a good mood, so why not wear it every single day? They are also gorgeous with my newly colored hair. Two thumbs up!! I've been using three lipsticks, all a different shade, Body Shop nr. 53 (this one is a little sticky but the color is casual so I like it), Fatal Red by Color Sensational (I have no idea where I got this one, I've had it for a long time and it's a bold and bright red) and last but not least my all time favorite Viva Glam by MAC. It's the perfect shade for me. It's matte and it can last for a whole day without smudging or fading like most lipsticks. I've had it for a year now and it's the best lipstick I've ever had.
