Fave looks from Christopher Kane F/W14

I'm sorry I'm a little bit behind on the F/W collections, I know I say this every time, but I have soo much homework I can barely stop for a second to breathe.. But I'm staying up late because I just can't stay away from those clothes any longer. I'm going to try to do a fave looks post every day for a week now and than an all time favorites one at the end of the week.. Let's see if I can make it!
I've never really understood what Christopher Kane was about until today. I knew his name but I didn't give him much attention. Obvious mistake! His new line is GORGEOUS, even though I thought the second half of the show was much better but that's just my opinion. I look forward to seeing what he does in the future. I'm proud to call myself a brand new Christopher Kane fan!

Flashback Friday - Dirty Dancing appreciation

What's your favorite eighties movie? Mine is Dirty dancing for sure, although The Breakfast Club is a close second.. Nowadays almost every movie I watch is over twenty years old. I've also given up on music that is younger than twenty-five years old (Arctic monkeys, Beyonce and Vampire Weekend the only exceptions).
What fascinates me the most about eighties movies is not the heartwarming love stories, wicked dance moves or hot guys. No, it's the fashion. I've got this obsession with eighties-nineties fashion and I've had it for a while now. Sometimes I even get carried away while dressing myself and show up at school looking like a character from Clueless...
But today we're talking about Dirty Dancing. You've all seen it, Johnny Castle falls deeply in love with Frances aka Baby even though they don't get along at first. If you're not familiar with it yet you know what I'm talking about when I say "Nobody puts baby in a corner". Yep, that's the one. This movie is so incredibly fabulous and there's just something so special about it. Okay I thinks this is enough, I've just spent an hour and a half looking at pictures of Patrick Swayze... *blushes*
If you haven't seen this movie I suggest you look it up on Netflix right now, no excuses.

Thriftshop treasures

One of my favorite things to do is going thrift shopping. It fascinates me that the clothes I'm buying have been worn by other people, they have a story. Sometimes I sit and wonder about their previous owners; if they really loved the thing or never even put it on; if they received it as a gift or bought it for a lot of money. This stuff can keep me up at night. 

Last Friday I went thrift shopping and bought three items, an oversized, see through shirt. It's really big and it looks really good when it's not button upped and is just super casual with a pair of skinny jeans. 

The second thing is a yellow dress, really short and there's a happy vibe that surrounds it (if that makes sense...) I love, love, love it and plan on wearing it A LOT this summer.

The last thing is a gorgeous hand knitted sweater. It's green/blueish and semi cropped. It looks super good with a skater skirt or skinny jeans. It's super comfortable and I'm in love with it.

I am very happy with the items I bought even though I had to leave an oversized jumper and a skirt behind. Oh well, our paths were not meant to cross.

Flashback Friday - Valentino

It's so funny how different the couture collections were only ten years ago.  Kind of scary to think about because ten years can pass by so quickly and it's so easy to miss it all. 

Today I was feeling quite nostalgic so I decided to take a peek into my favorite designers past and ten years seemed like the right amount of years. So, I sat in front of the computer, typed www.style.com in the search bar and found the Valentino Spring Couture 2004 collection. Truth be told I do not like this collection at all. It's dull and plain weird if I'm being honest. But I think it's interesting because it was only ten years ago and everything has developed so much. Below are the looks I think you would never, ever see on a runway today.

The first idea was to pick one look out of every collection but that turned out to be completely impossible... Kate Moss appreciation post

Can we talk about Kate Moss for a little bit? She is by far the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen. Big time lady crush alert. I mean, the woman is 40 years old for god's sake and she posed naked for Playboy and looked better than any twenty year old doing the same thing. Also, I can't get over the fact that she did coke at Nelson Mandela's house. She has lived so much!! She dated Johnny Depp (they are forever my OTP btw), she has walked for every fashion house you can think of, she had a baby and got married but still managed to stay fabulous, she designed a clothing line for Topshop and the list goes on. She is without a doubt one of the biggest super models to ever live.

I'm still sad about the fact that they did not get married. (cries)

I mean, look at them!!!

Recent book purchases

A few weeks ago I discovered a small section in this book shop down town that sells fantastic classic for a very small prize. The past month I've bought myself five books; The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote, Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Sherlock Holmes the Novels (Volume two) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.
I couldn't be happier with the books I bought, I've only gotten around to reading The Bell Jar and Breakfast at Tiffany's but I'm super excited to start reading the rest!

When I finished Breakfast at Tiffany's I was greeted by a funny surprise, there were three other short stories by Capote in the book. I read the first two, House of Flowers and Diamond Guitar, and they were both beautifully written and really influential. The third one is called Christmas Memory and I decided to save that one for next December (long shot maybe, I'm not the most patient person you'll meet and I will probably give up on saving it and read it in three days). Capote is a great writer and i think everyone is familiar with Audrey Hepburn's iconic performance in Breakfast at Tiffany's. If you haven't read the book I strongly recommend it, it really is as equally amazing as the movie.

I'm really looking forward to reading this one. The only book I've read by Kurt Vonnegut is Cat's Cradle and I really, really enjoyed that one. The sarcastic and black humor Vonnegut had completely swept me away. I've heard so many great things about this book and when I saw it in the store I knew I had to have it. When I finish reading Damned by Chuck Palahniuk this one will definitely be next on my list.

Sherlock Holmes. My beloved. 

For a long time now I've been wanting to read the Sherlock Holmes novels and after watching the third season of the television show were Benedict Cumberbatch is looking delicious I knew this Sherlock obsession was not going away any time soon. Even though this is the second volume of Sir Arthur's work I was so excited to find this book I didn't even hesitate. I don't care if I read the latter novels first, I just want to know more about Sherlock Holmes. 

This book I read first. It is so incredibly mesmerizing and you won't be able to put it down once you pick it up. I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book but whatever it was it definitely wasn't this. The deeper you get into this book the deeper you get into Syliva's head. As most people know this book is pretty much her life story and it is so incredible how she was able to capture her own insanity and depression and put it into words. No one will finish this book untouched.

I've never read a graphic novel before and it's definitely something i'm looking forward to do. I saw the movie they made out of this book and it was very memorable. I'm pretty sure this book will teach me a lot and I really can't wait to read it.
